Melissa Wehrman was brought on as a contractor and lead designer for the hip and famous SLS Hotels brand, specifically focusing on the SLS Hotel South Beach launch in May 2012. Her challenge was to design a Miami specific interpretation of the pre-existing brand, as well as a refresh of the SLS Hotel Beverly Hills more traditional style. Melissa’s designs included stationery, housekeeping and operational print materials, turndown cards, South Beach map graphics, privacy door hangers, keycards and cases, pens, pencils, notepads, umbrellas, coasters, retail bags, slippers, matchboxes, ironing board graphics, luggage tags, cups, water bottles laundry forms and packaging, tradeshow displays, advertising, e-blasts, VIP opening invitations and an iPad guestroom compendium. © Melissa Wehrman. In 2012, Melissa was engaged for a branding project for Sage Restaurant Group's Kachina Southwestern Grill in Westminster, Colorado (halfway between Denver and Boulder). Inspired by the Native American culture and the beautiful textures of the Colorado skyline, Kachina became a rustic yet modern interpretation through rich textures, bold patterns, and deep colors. The logo itself was derived from a mirrored K letterform, while a supplementary secondary icon included a feather with Native American patterns and symbols depicted among its threads. Deliverables for this project included a long list of signage, print pieces, illustrations, belt buckles, t-shirts, menus, coasters, matches, pens, stationary, hats, website, gift cards, branded river rocks, and the press gifts which were spice jars with accompanying recipe cards. © Melissa Wehrman. Melissa Wehrman designed and launched Denver’s hip Sugarlicious Candy store in 2011. Melissa took a hands-on approach to this beloved project – attending gift shows with the owner and spending a full week in-store rearranging displays and signage (and, of course, sampling lots of candy). Melissa Wehrman redesigned the branding and identity for the Toledo Opera in 2011 to launch a new vision for the Toledo Opera. The logo design and overall brand was made more modern and approachable while still giving nod to the rich history of the organization and the art of opera. Deliverables included the logo design (the custom script T being a transformed treble clef), web site, individual opera branding, brochures, educational materials, advertisements and stationery. © Melissa Wehrman. From 2006–2008, Melissa Wehrman began work on the LXR brand’s new The London Hotels while at Korn Design. She was both the art director and lead designer on this project launching the initial New York City property in 2006 and also The London West Hollywood in 2008. With a deliverable list of over 300 items between the two properties, Melissa drove the branding and marketing of the luxury hotels. Her work for The London Hotels included: stationery and print materials, brochures, lifestyle photo shoot art direction, guest compendiums, floorplans and map graphics, signage and wayfinding, web site, eblast campaigns, products such as guest amenities, do not disturb hangers, robes, umbrellas, and opening VIP gift items. Melissa’s design and branding efforts for Sage Restaurant Group’s Mercat a la Planxa restaurant in Chicago earned her a 2010 nomination for a James Beard Outstanding Restaurant Graphics. Melissa was the art director, illustrator, copywriter and lead designer on this particular client while employed at Korn Design. Among the deliverables for this Catalan-inspired Mediterranean kitchen were name development, logo design, photography art direction, web site design, stationery, press kits, menus, coasters, matchboxes, napkins, stickers, t-shirts, advertisements, lasercut wayfinding signage and a large-scale mural design along with collaboration with the interior design team D-Ash Design. © Melissa Wehrman Design.
